We used Home Helpers. My mother was recovering from a stroke and so the first week, we had round-the-clock care. She needed help transferring from the chair to the toilet or the toilet to the bed or just moving. After that, as she improved, we cut that down to just a few hours a day, and then once she felt like she could navigate her kitchen and take a shower by herself, we discontinued care.

I am using Home Helpers Wheaton. They have been pretty easy to work with. They respond to my requests. The ladies that I met that have come to my home, I felt were all very good. I really don't have any complaints at all. There is really nothing that they have fallen down on. They provide basic services, like making sure my husband takes his meds, preparing a couple meals, and companionship. There is no overnight, helping with dressing, or anything like that. All of the women seemed as though they're very comfortable with it, and they're very kind.

She was up and moving, doing puzzles, getting her medications, being read to, and overall having fun. They also made food and had nice conversations. They made sure she had enough to drink. Some caregivers had to leave early, and the replacement couldn't come right away, so I had to step in during the gaps. I didn't want that to happen, since we agreed to a 24/7 arrangement.

I really don't have any complaints and I appreciate having someone cook healthy for him, he has dementia. I am not well versed in dementia, but one time the client turned on a coffee machine and when the caregiver came the coffee was burned. That is more of my problem. They have really good communication, especially with the caretaker and supervisor, I can reach them by phone or by text.

He tends to my husband, gets him up, does exercises with him, and transfers my husband from wheelchair to walker. He also vacuums, gets the mail, and does some minor chores around the house.
