My mother used The Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. They had a nurse and a team that came. As the needs arise or the needs increase, they increase their team and their responsibilities. They were very helpful. I had wonderful experiences with everyone, except one nurse. That created a very unpleasant experience. Other than that, they were wonderful. I have no suggestions, only my experience with the one nurse. If they're sending out a nurse, that nurse needs to know the patient that they're going to see at that time. They were extremely helpful all the way through. I was satisfied.

The service from Suncoast Hospice Mid-County Community Service Care was wonderful. Every single person that came from there treated my mom with dignity and they gave her the autonomy that she was able to have. They're very concerned about her comfort level, and they pretty much addressed any concerns we've had. We had a nurse that visited once a week, and a social worker once every two weeks. We had a nurse practitioner come out twice, and also a physical therapist for evaluating the home space to see whether it was good for my mom's condition. Once when the regular nurse couldn't come there was another staff member who came without calling, which was very inconvenient. Other than that incident, all the regular providers were great. They would call first and they were there on time. I was very happy with all of them.

It was the Lavender Group of Sun Coast Hospice that came in. There were 2 people who came in; one was Mary, and my mom was pretty well on her way by then. So they came in quite late, but the care that they gave her for the couple hours was great. They sat with her, Mary came in and told us everything, and she was there when my mom passed. And then after that, the other gal came in and sat with us while we waited for the funeral place to come and pick her up.

Suncoast Hospice was the best. They were very active, they brought the right people at the right time. They worked around our schedules and very flexible. If I had issues, I called them and things were fixed immediately. They were quick to respond and did everything they needed to do. My dad was being taken cared of and I could keep an eye on him.

This group is just like any other group, they are not perfect they make mistakes. Some employees are sweet and kind, others are critical, and sour, and may document things poorly, or negatively because of there sour and/or uninformed outlook/view. Be sure to review their (your team's) documents, and statements about you and your loved ones, daily or regularly, so you may be able to correct inaccuracies, or mistakes on a timely basis. Make sure they (Hospice) are clear about who the loved ones want, to make the important decisions, concerning their care. Because other Bullying type family members may feel that they can come in to Hospice and misrepresent their positions of authority, and bully their way into making important decisions that the beloved family member didn't want left to those family members. Again make sure to review the file regularly, while family member is alive, because it takes a court order after the death of the family member. So there will be no way to review it to make sure that there are no important errors, or mistakes, misunderstandings, in the permanent record. The good people there at hospice try to do the right thing, but even they can and will, make mistakes, It is your job, your responsibility, to try to help them to not make important mistakes that may affect the quality of the end of life of your loved one.....
