I wasn't really impressed with AccentCare Newport Beach. They provided home health and homecare. There were several who came and there was only one out of all of them that was good. They took forever to come in, sometimes they didn't even call, and there was only one guy who was the physical therapist who was very good. The others were not so good and didn't do what they were supposed to do.

I got my mom caretakers from AccentCare. It has only been four or five days. They have been coming in 7 days a week for 12 hours a day. During the week, it is the same person and then Friday, Saturday and Sunday, it is a different person, so my mom has two caretakers. So far, they're really good. They did everything they said they would. They had somebody the very next day after I called. I told them I needed somebody there who is outgoing and friendly because my mom is shy and quiet, and they accommodated perfectly. They're doing excellent. My mom is very happy. They could have a little better price, but they are really good.

My experience with Accent Care Home Health was not very good. We had an in-home interview with the person from the agency, and she told us basically what we needed to do and what the caregiver was authorized to do, and that turned out to be incorrect. So, we were counting on the caregiver to do certain things based on that interview, and the caregiver actually came and said she was not allowed to do that, which was kind of strange and inconsistent. But we really enjoyed the caregiver and, unfortunately, she got a job some place else, so we got a substitute caregiver from the same agency, and she was terrible. I met with her the first time she came and told her what she needed to do, and she did nothing. Basically, all she did was sit there. We scheduled with Accent, and my sister-in-law had made appointments with her clients and was waiting for the caregiver, but she didn't come, so she called Accent, and they said that no one was coming without previously notifying us, so she had to cancel all her appointments; it was pretty bad. If they actually provided the services that they said they were going to provide, then I think it would be great, and the first caregiver was great. But she said she was not authorized to provide medication, and my mother-in-law has to have medication throughout the day, so that was the problem. Originally, when the representative came to us, she said she could administer medication. She also said that she could go buy lunch for her, and she would be reimbursed like so many cents a mile, then when she actually came, she said she was not authorized to leave and could not administer medication, which was really inconsistent. But she was very competent and was an excellent caregiver, so we are sad that she moved on. When she was replaced, the next caregiver not only would not administer medication or go get lunch, she also did nothing. She didn't feed her or help her to go to the bathroom, so that was terrible.

We've been using AccentCare for over six months now. I choose them because they have the flexibility in the hours that I needed. Hardworking, orderly, firm, and concern are the qualities of the caregiver that is taking care of my mom right now. I'm comfortable with them, but I just would like them to be more patient and more ability to deal with the difficulties of the case for mom.
