I visited this facility

Westchester of Sunrise was terrible. As soon as you walked in, it was not clean. It wasn't inviting. Everything was very outdated. It was just terrible; it was just a waste of time. The girl that took care of me was really nice, and she showed me the whole area and the facility. However, I don't know how it's even open because it looks rundown. They showed me the recreation room, which was terrible. They showed me the community room, which was terrible. The dining room was terrible. There's a beautiful fountain, but everything looked rundown, and the floors were terrible. It needs a lot of upgrades. The room was terrible. It was just a ten-by-ten room. It had the closet, the bathroom, and a little nook area for a microwave and little refrigerator. The cabinets were run down. The wood was rotten. They said that they were going to replace the carpet and put new drapes in, but it was just terrible.

This facility and the staff was a blessing in the sky! My 86 yo mother broke a bone on Feb 2020. Less than a month they lockdown the facility do to Covid19. I was devastated. My mother has dementia, but the staff was AMAZING to make me feel comfortable. The RNs Kim, Marsha and Adrian, the CNAs Guerda, Lourdes, Sonia (and all the other), the Activity Manager, ETC... ALL AMAZING. I wish other people could appreciate what they do to their love ones. How difficult is to dealing with all the issues they bring and still have a smile in the face! I know that I will never be able to repay all the love and care my mom gets from them. Love you guys!!

I visited this facility

Westchester of Sunrise is an ALF. They have a nursing home associated with the facility which is at the back of the facility. The two of them are on the same compound. It's a family community. The people were very pleasant. I didn't get to see a lot because they were still under Covid restrictions. The dining room was closed down and the activity center. Everything was still closed because of Covid. I was taken around the place to see the layout of the facility and one of the rooms, but that's about it. They're still under Covid precautions. I didn't stay long. I went and met with the person-in-charge and the administrator. They gave me a tour of the facility, but everything was closed down and they took me to see one of the rooms. It's a fairly big room. They provide a small fridge and a microwave in the room for the resident. I saw a couple of the residents. The staff was nice, and the atmosphere was good. We can't wait for the place to open up. The person who showed me around said they have guests that come in and perform for the residents. They have days when they have families, but all that's on hold until they open back up. They also have an area where you can go if you don't want the meal that's being served where you can have sandwiches. There's a choice and they have the ice cream parlor and they have the hairdresser and the barber. The downstairs is closed down because of Covid. They had a special smoking area outside with chairs and it's in a nice little cool area that they can go and sit out there and socialize and smoke. The back of that is the nursing home, but I didn't go there. They have different people from the church come in from different denominations to have a service. They have a laundry room. The place was clean. The people that I interacted with were pleasant. The director also introduced me to the administrator. As we were touring, we saw the nurses or the aides, and she introduced me to them.

The room is spacious and amenities are decent for the fee. However, the service they provide lacks attention to detail, customer service and bedside manner. Would not recommend this place if you do not have the time to follow-up on your loved one. Medications run out and are not ordered in time. Food has recently started to improve from the time I have been visiting. Nursing staff is a hit or miss depending on their mood and work shift.

I love my home at Westchester of Sunrise. When I first got here it was hard but it did not take me long to feel at home. The staff made it very easy for me and now I love it.

I great, well kept facility an awesome value for what they charge. Most of all great staff who really care about their residents, they know everyone, they are close with the families and do the best they can to meet the needs of each residents. The staff is consistently very warm and welcoming. My friend's mom lives here and i would recommend this place.

The rooms are spacious, Large Windows and High Ceilings. Bathrooms are well thought out. Good Heating and A/C Friendly & Caring Staff, I feel I could have been in a far worse facility. As, I was treated well, and Thankful, I can live independently now. It is a Big Facility undergoing timley changes. It needs the updating it is going through. My Only complaint would be the food. Breakfast & Lunch are OK, but dinner needs upgrading. Cooperative Management.

The assisted living facility looks inviting but there's a dark side called the rehabilitation center. Horrible environment. Depressing rooms. Furniture was that of a cheap motel. Exposed wires and one working 18 inch TV for two people . My mother was there less than an hour. We insisted on an immediate discharge. Not a healing atmosphere.

There is a very poor system of communication in this facility. My father has been a dissatisfied resident for 6 weeks. We are moving him out ASAP. He was using diapers in the beginning due to his inability to ambulate. The aides would leave soiled diapers in the room rather then discarding them properly as waste should be disposed. The room and bathroom were left in complete disarray - and I have photos and a video of this that I will be sending along with a partial refund demand, as our family is paying - NOT INSURANCE!!! His closet doors were off track and no one fixed this after several phone calls, and finally, a week later, the door was fixed. Then the mount for the microwave came unhinged, but no one as bothered to fix that. My father has complained that the food is awful, along with other residents. Some of the nurses aides are nice, but the majority of employees are just doing their job with little compassion or concern. The place looks decent but that's it. NOT RECOMMENDED!

My mother is in Westchester. The place was certainly good, but while breakfast and lunch are OK, the dinner is awful. But we're living with it. There's live music, and they're very attentive. There's a counsellor that sees her, and everybody gives me an update.

The staff is responsive to their needs. It is difficult to tell the nurses are apart from the aides because they are always helpgul, and anybody answers the call lights.

My Mom is at the Westchester of Sunrise, Yes the place has changed and they are doing a lot of renovations. Top to bottom..Many people are leaving due to the expense . Yes the food has changed big time..an easy fix . There is something going on perhaps they are selling the place. I believe the care is up to standers . They should tell the residents about future plans, They should make meals better during this transition, one resident went to the hospital, and when he returned his room was empty the staff says they are looking for his stuff,"not acceptable" they moved it to put in carpet.Inclosing the place is great, they care about the residents it is just the mystery about the futur plans.

My mother was placed in the facility a year and a half ago for a fractured hip. At first her recovery progressed well under skilled rehabilitation service. Approximately six months into her stay she began to rapidly decline. She became more confused and required maximum assistance for feeding and incontinence care. Her dementia, which was initially minor, also progressed. This is when I noticed significant weight loss and unexplained skin tears and bruises on her upper extremities, including the arm she could not longer move due to a recent stroke. She was recently hospitalized due to a GI bleed and her labs were evidence of malnutrition and dehydration. She has suffered significant weight loss during her residency at Regents Park. She also developed at Stage 2 pressure also and a contracture of her left lower extremity (even though she was supposedly being skilled for PT. ) She is now in hospice care and the staff informed me she cries out when her personal care is being rendered. Her verbalizations including pleadings indicating she views her peri care as a punishment. I am very concerned based on physical evidence and recent behavior, that she was subjected to very rough handling under the care of Regents Park staff.

This place has been steadily declining for years and is now a ghost town. I will be relocating my mother in this month due to the intolerable situation. The food is horrible; residents have been complaining for months to no avail. The admin staff, including the front desk receptionist leaves at 5PM, meaning than anyone can walk in without any security. This is NOT an acceptable place to leave a loved one.

The PT's and OT's are wonderful here. Super nice and always going the extra mile to help the residents get better. The nurses and CNA's there can definitely be spotty though. Majority of them are at best just ok. You can tell that they are there just to get paid and don't fully care. A handful of them are a joy though. Also, the place is a bit dirty and outdated with mixed matched or broken furniture in the rooms

I have a problem with Westchester Sunrise because I am the youngest here in this facility; everybody is so old here, and they don’t do much. They do have activities like bingo, but I found it boring. We also go outside to eat and shopping. With regards to their staff, they don’t have enough, and they don’t come early enough for me to help me get dressed, so I sometimes would be late for breakfast.

Mom stayed at Westchester for two weeks, but they didn’t have a locked facility; that is why we needed to move her out. Overall, it was OK. They have once or twice a week of activities; there aren't many. Mom said the food is OK.

I visited a relative last weekend and was very disappointed. He was on his wheelchair by the nurse's station waiting for his medications for more than thirthy minutes, no nurse was at the station, the hallway floor leading to the facility pass the rehab was dirty and smelly. Many employees went back and forth and none one them removed the pieces of paper scattered on the floor. We were told that was a well kept place, but does not live up to their reputation. So much my cousin is looking for another facility.

My father has been at Regents Park of Sunrise since September, and the care is pretty good. We are happy with him there. Our goal is to bring him home, but right now we don’t have anyone to help take care of him at home. The therapist takes excellent care with this therapy as well as the nurses. The food is fine. They do have activities, but he doesn’t have time to do them because of his therapy. I know they have bingo and movies, and they also spend time with jokes and riddles; there is a little bit of everything.

We chose Westchester as it really had to do with the proximity of her to my house, and it also had to do with the price. We were pleased, the nurses take very good care of her; they call us all the time and keep us well-informed of her physical condition, and they let me know when I need to pick up additional medication or supplies for her. There is a doctor that comes to the facility, so it’s very convenient for the family. The director that they just got rid of I would have had nice things to say about her, but she’s gone. She seemed very pleasant, welcoming, and helpful. We really haven’t had any issues at all with the facility; that’s why she is still there. The surroundings I think are very pleasant. The only complaint I would have that they have a beautiful area that you could sit and talk outside, but they have a problem with raccoons; they are very aggressive. You cannot go out because the raccoons will come right up to you. Mom’s apartment is fine, they pick trash up daily and then they thoroughly clean once a week. She has a private room; it’s a one bedroom studio. I think it’s plenty for what she needs. My mother knows Joan the activity director, and she will come and knock on the doors of the residents to get them involved in different activities. She is wonderful; everybody loves her very much. The food is good they have lovely menu options. My mom is diabetic, and they have a diabetic options for her. I’ve eaten there a couple of times, and I have no complaints about the food. They are upgrading the living facility.

The hospital chose Regents Park of Sunrise for my mom. I didn't have any issues with them except for one social worker that I had a problem with. She wasn't that friendly. The nurses were good and the rehab was excellent. The therapist did a good job for my mom.

The rehab center recommended Westchester to us. We went there and it seemed like they didn't have a whole lot of activities going on. The people there weren't friendly at all. The lady that gave us the tour, she really didn't know the residents and she wasn't really that friendly.

I visited this facility

I had the occasion to visit a client in this facility. It is a large facility that offers daily activities for the clients. The lady I saw seemed happy in the facility, she had a group of friends that she met with for her meals and to play cards. The medical staff seemed to be attentive and helpful when I inquired about the clients medications. She reported that staff were quick to assist her with her needs. She told me that she was unable to continue to live alone in the community after several falls and was scared of leaving her home, but feels that since being in the facility, she feels more social than when she lived alone, as she had become isolated from others.

Friend or relative of resident

My aunt is currently a resident of Westchester, the assisted living facility. She is 96 years old and she is not able to take care of herself. I have visited her at this assisted living facility and I was not extremely impressed. She sometimes seems to be ignored by the staff or not given the individual attention she deserves. The staff at the facility often seem bored and tired. They are not very fun to be around. There are some exceptions of course, there are some friendly people working there. The food atleast seems pretty good, I have tried some of it and it was delicious and healthy. They also serve delicious sugar free ice cream. Which is a good thing because my aunt can't have sugar but she loves sweets. The actual facility itself looks great, its very fancy and well kept. Very clean. Another complaint I have is that they often promise entertainment for the residents but most of the time it is 'cancelled' for some reason. It must be very dissapointing if that was what one was looking forward to as the highlight of the day. All in all it is not a bad place to live but it could be better in my opinion.
