I would not recommend this Rehab Center/Nursing Home to my worst enemy. They did not have enough equipment (wheelchairs & walkers) for their residents. I had a family member there to get rehab., however they did not work with my family member at ALL in the 3 weeks the family member was there, which was confirmed by home health after our family member was discharged. They do not check on the residents like they should. They leave them in wet and dirty briefs for very long periods of time. Our family member also had a lot of clothing disappear and was never returned to our family. The items lost did have my family members name in them! It took the facility forever to schedule an appointment with the surgeon that did the family members surgery to get staples removed. Overall, the stay for the family member and guests was very poor.

I would not recommend this facility to anyone that has a family member. My family member was put there for rehab in the memory care facility. The unit being locked down was a good thing and I highly recommend the therapy. He got wonderful care for the therapy and is able to walk because of them. The issues that I have The first was a fall that was not reported to the family members And was not even recorded until later. several phone calls took place during this time. We were told one thing one time one thing another time. This went on for several days.. Found out that he had some injury’s Sustained by the accident . His legs are three times the sizes they are supposed to be because they were not elevated. He has hurt his ribs and he has bedsores from the bottom his butt all the way down. He was not taken to the hospital. Had x-rays done there at the facility 3 to 4 days after the fall that he told us about not the facility or the nurses. The second issue that we have is he was sitting in his own urine from Thur- Sat. That Thursday we came for a visit, we’re not able to come back till Saturday. He was in the same clothes, and he was sitting in the same wheelchair. . Got a , nurses, assistant, or CNA to help change him who didn’t even clean him. We cleaned him. . We came back on a Sunday to find out that he has been setting since approximately 4 AM that morning in feces. It was in the floor below the wheelchair. It was on two blankets, one that he had wrapped over his head . He doesn’t have the ability to see very well at all. He had been trying to get some help. The door was shut and it was over 80 to 90° in the room. It was so hot it stunk. We had to get the therapist and another CNA off of another floor to come and assist us with getting him changed and cleaned up. Highly recommend the therapist. Most of the other residents doors were closed. We did an early discharge to get him out of this place. . I would not recommend this place. If you make complaints, they don’t listen they don’t call you back they just don’t really care in my opinion.

What my sister, the resident, liked the best about this Universal Healthcare facility was the homey environment and delicious home-style meals. And I agree with her. Additionally, the entire complex is designed so that every resident has a beautiful nature view from his/her room. That indicates a caring overall plan, very unusual and much appreciated. The staff iscompletely professional and attentive. Personally I have witnessed excellent and truly caring attention by nurses and CNAs, all of whom were stretched thin, as is the usual. I only hope all are paid appropriately for the care they provide. My sister was there because of terminal cancer. Every measure was taken to assure her the maximum of comfort. This is an excellent facility. I witnessed this on a daily basis for several weeks, so am sure that this is the usual standard of care.

Unfortunately, I would not suggest this facility as a place for the care of a loved one. They have a very limited staff of professionals that truly care about what your loved one is going through or feeling. The staff has the attitude that it's all about them and not your loved one. If you are challenged with not enough staff, then don't commit yourself to taking care of patients you can't handle. The room was dirty constantly and even expected the family to change bed linens. If a patient needed back in their bed, they were left sitting in a wheelchair until the pain in there hips and back was unbearable. They did not seem to care at all. Please don't do what we did and trust your loved one to this facility.

I visited Universal Health Care - Fletcher. They were understaffed, but they seemed to be very welcoming. It was very expensive, which was the only drawback I had with that one. They had a memory care unit, but I wasn't as impressed with their memory care unit as the other place I toured. Some of the things were good, and some were not. What I liked best was that the front door was locked; you couldn't go out without a nurse letting you. It was very secure. The sales manager was very informative and welcoming. The room that I saw was above average, but it wasn't fantastic. The facility was spread out, and it seemed like there was a lot to do. The staff kept them busy. It was very clean. The staff that I saw weren't doing a whole lot.

I am giving Universal 1 star and that is only because of two employees— (Lynn C. who was amazing and Andrew the director of PT- who was fabulous...also I am sure that there are great nurses and CNA’s as well). So all that sounds good, but here is where the ZERO stars come in: during Covid each patient is given an ambassador who was to be the eyes and ears for the family. This person was supposed to be the point of contact and also call weekly with updates. We made an appointment to window visit with my dad through our ambassador (Amber F)... she was “busy” and did not show up or even have someone to help. Additionally, she never once called us. After complaining to the head of Universal, Amber had the audacity to lie and tell me she had spoken to my mother multiple times. I immediately got my mother on the line and she still tried to lie. Fast forward to discharge day...the weekend facility staff was “unaware” (ie not told) my father was being discharged at 11:00 am (after I even had to sign documents acknowledging I was picking him up). We had to wait a long time to have him brought to us and when they did he was in the same clothes he’d had on for days. He was dirty and smelled, his hair was matted and sticky. When we got him home and opened his suitcase half his clothes were missing. They had also thrown three dirty, wet shirts into his suitcase. I would not ever send my loved ones to Universal. Do yourself a favor and place your loved one elsewhere.

We visited Universal Healthcare because of all the recommendations we got. The lady I talked to was awesome, fantastic, very personable, and knowledgeable. We walked in, and we only saw the entrance area and the sitting area.

Mom was in Universal from the middle of October to the end of November so I would say that was six to eight weeks. She went into the locked ward first because she was coming out of the psych unit from the hospital and that was the only room they had and then when they had another room open, they moved her to the skilled nursing side so I'd seen both sides. Universal is a very big skilled nursing center. The whole facility is locked and then they have a locked down unit for more advanced dementia. For a large facility, I'd give them a 5. They were really, really good. Their staff was wonderful. She loved the food, she said it was really good. They have a pretty TV living room, they have a beautiful sun room. They have in-house physical therapy, occupational therapy, a hairdresser, two dining rooms, a couple of covered porches. They had a shower, they even had a whirlpool tub that she thought was just awesome. They had a beautician that came on a regular basis. They do crafts and little parties and they have people come in and sing and some religious groups come in. There were things that went on. Mother just didn't want to participate because it felt like a hospital to her and she just nested down in her bed. She went in there depressed and just wanted to die. I think sunlight coming through the windows and the food was so good, she started eating and she progressed. I was very happy with them.
