My brother was admitted to Canal Point suffering from stage 4 lung cancer. He was there twice after treatment at the hospital during his first stay. Even though we weren't thrilled at first with him being sent there, we were pleased with the care he received, The staff was friendly and attentive to his needs. Most of all though my brother felt safe and was secure with the fact that the nurses and staff were quick to address any difficulties he had. Unfortunately after being sent back to the hospital, my brother was sent to hospice where he passed the end of January 2018, but as a family we are grateful for the care he received at Canal Pointe.

Prison inmates get better care) My brother has lost his hearing aid and his phone. Phone at nurses station goes un-answered, sometimes even front desk doesn't answer! Bottom line . . . Choose a different facility!

This is the second time my sister has been here and the first time, which was about 6 years ago, was great. This time she had a hearing aid mysteriously come up missing as well as the clothes she had on when admitted. It seems like it has went downhill and someone likes to pick up things that are not theirs to take. This is unacceptable in any situation but especially when one has no choice and needs competent and trustworthy help. In the future she needs to go to a facility such as this, it will NOT be Canal Pointe. I will never trust this place again, nor will I ever recommend it to anyone.

I CONTINUE TO BE HEARTBROKEN, BECAUSE THIS FACILITY IS STILL OPEN💔 99.9% OF STAFF IS HERE JUST FOR THE PAYCHECK. My brothers life was saved barely when a facility in Wooster, OH took him in. He was on a vent and septic from bedsores from being at this facility. 🙏 For the residents and their families.🙏

Rooms are okay, staff nasty and always out smoking, you have to beg for medication. The food isnt bad though. Probably the best thing about canal pointe is that its in an area not a lot of people would want to be in so they choose not to go there. They have a bad respiratory department with a lazy supervisor who makes the employees slave while she sits on her rump. Wounds are to the bone! This place is more of a social club for employees with a lot of kissing up being done. They put unqualified people into any position just so they can pay them less! They are rude and uncaring to residents. The vent unit doesnt wean, just keeps these people as long term care. Dont send your loved ones here. they are mean and incompetent! They should be closed down!

One of the worst SNF EVER

Due to my line of work, I often visit this facility and it is with a doubt one of the worst facilities I have been to. The staff, unfortunately are burned out, poor quality staff. The member's in this facility rarely see the physician over the SNF.

Awful nursing care, really good respiratory therapist (Diane) who truly cares about her residents and does everything she can to wean them from the trach/vent. Too bad nursing care and administration is awful otherwise this place wouldn't be half bad. If it weren't for Diane this place would have 0 stars.

don't leave your family member there, there are many other places in akron a lot better then canal pointe, my brother was there for almost 3 years he died in that place, and the three years he spent there were dirty, lonely, neglected, yelled at, everything I ever took him was stolen, lost, opr thrown away.. none of the patients there are happy, the nurses on the 3rd floor are great but the other workers including office workers are all rude and fake! if you do have family there, take a lot of notes, take a lot of pictures and ask a lot of questions, and keep an eye on your belongings.

Canal Pointe Nursing & Rehab was more institutional because my father really wasn't able to do much like those other patients or anything. It was just that they take patients who have ventilators on trays, and it was closer to our home than our other two choices. The staff was fine. I would say they were pretty good. I can't say that there were too many people we did not really care for. I feel that he got adequate care. There were days when there weren't any people around, but a lot of times, his different therapists were coming in pretty regularly. So it wasn't like he was lying there for a day with nobody around. We were there every single day, so we saw pretty much everything that went on. The only real issue we had was that we were told they weren't crushing up the pills enough to put in his tray or in his feeding tube, and that was why it was clogging up, and they keep sending him back to the hospital. But besides that he has always been clean, and he doesn't have any bedsores or anything, so I think they were taking good care of him. His room was a good size. He was actually in a double room, but he was by himself, so it was nice. They had extra room and a nice big window, so it was bright.

Too bad there isn't an option for zero stars. We trusted this facility with the care of my father. He is now in intensive care at an area hospital worse than when he entered the facility. He received less than adequate care. Do NOT send your loved one to this facility if you have hopes of their health improving.
