My dad moved into The Cottages at Clear Lake. The place is very clean. Everybody sits in his own designated area. They have a kitchen and everybody sits down together. They're pretty good people. They treat my dad pretty well. The meals are pretty good and I have eaten them. They've got anything from church to games. There's always an activity going on throughout the day.

My wife was at The Cottages at Clear Lake. It's a nice place, but she just didn't like it there. She was in the community for about two months two years ago. I was impressed that they had their own chef and that the meal plans were wholesome. The facilities themselves were really nice. It was a home-like environment. They kept her in clean clothes very well. It's a really nice place. The staff seemed fine. Overall, I would recommend it. She liked the food, too. They seemed to always have something going on. They had somebody in there playing the guitar for them. The amenities were good. It was nice furniture, and there were different areas for reading and various things. There was a little walkway out in the back where they could get out and walk around in the sun. It seemed really nice to me.

My 65 year old husband has dementia and his quality of life has improved since I moved him to the Cottages. He is high functioning physically and the care givers keep him moving! He is always shaved and polished as his mom would say. He loves the Music sessions and all of the other activities. He doesn’t speak but now he smiles all of the time. Everyone at the Cottages from the nurses caregivers and even the chef work diligent to insure the residents have the best life they can. They are a blessing for my husband.

Provider Response

Thank you so much for your kind review. It is our honor to be able to care for your husband. Thank you for your trust in The Cottages.

My husband is at The Cottages at Clear Lake under memory care. Due to Covid, you can't go inside the buildings, but you can only go to your loved ones. I usually go and see my husband in the courtyard that is enclosed and secure where they will bring him out there to me. I do sometimes go into his room, but not very often. I like that the courtyard is very comfortable and very pretty. They have gardening stuff and feeders for hummingbirds and other birds. I can also take my dogs to see my husband if I choose to, but I have to warn them because they have an in-house dog. The staff is the most wonderful and caring people I have ever met. They take care of his needs and if there are changes, they let me know and do whatever is necessary for whatever changes come up. The social stuff was curtailed a whole lot because of COVID, but it's now coming back. I know they have group meetings and group exercises, and different things.

I was impressed with The Cottages at Clear Lake. They've got some work to do on one of their areas. The staff was pleasant. One of them helped me get to the right place, and there was one cleaning up and vacuuming the place. The tour was very pleasant. I like the cleanliness and layout of the rooms. The interaction with the person doing the tour was very welcoming and very informative.

Provider Response

My mother is at The Cottages at Clear Lake. With COVID, there's limited access. I have secured access to go in, but it's typically just to her (which is fine). The room is always clean. The bathrooms are adjoining bathrooms; they are always clean too. In terms of the place itself, I've been pleased. Even if we do have to sit outside in the patio area at times, it's usually clean. I have to wait for somebody to come let me in the door. They're very diligent about checking temperature and asking questions to determine if you've been exposed. They make sure you wear a mask. They actually provide masks if you don't have one, so I do like that about them. There are times that it's difficult to get through and have somebody answer the phone. It's busy and I understand that sometimes they may have periods during the day that are busier than other times. So far, my mom's stay has been good. It's been roughly six weeks. This week is probably less comfortable for her because I think it's sinking in that this is where she's going to be. The first month, she had no complaints. She told me how nice everybody was and how great they are with her. This week has been a little bit more difficult for her with regard to her food, her meals, and giving her medicine, and those are the things that are important to me. It's not independent living because she's unable to walk and she has dementia in addition to her physical limitations. They're having physical therapy added into her weekly routine so that they can help train her how to use the wheelchair or get her standing up and taking a few steps. That is part of the routine program they have there. She is in a semiprivate room. She's the only one in the room, but she shares a bathroom; it's kind of like a Jack and Jill setup. There's another person on the other side whom she shares a bathroom with, but she does have a room by herself. Before she moved into The Cottages, she literally watched TV from morning till night. Now, when I visit, she would not even turn on the TV. They always try to keep them out of their rooms, and they have a separate activity room where they have different things. She had marks from markers on her clothes and her arms because she was doing art projects. I don't know specifically what the activities are, but she's always told me that she's in the activities room. They had a special Easter dinner and banquet. There's a separate activity room, and they try to not have the residents stay in their rooms alone or just watching TV. They're usually out engaging with others. The physical therapist who comes in twice a week to see her gives her a set of exercises to do. I spoke to a psychiatrist/neurologist last week who came in to visit with her. That's something that's really helpful, too, because when she was not there, I physically had to make arrangements for her to go to various places for appointments. Now they're coming to her. She says the food is OK. She doesn't complain about the food and she loves to eat. It seems like it's a pretty balanced meal. They try to give them enough fluids, fruits, and vegetables. It's a good layout.

We are pleased with the show of nurturing the caregivers provide Mom who has severe dementia. The facility is always clean and residents are engaged. Happy to have found this place.

I visited this facility

The Cottages at Clear Lake was a nice facility, but it's very expensive. It was clean, but it had a little bit of a mold smell. The residents weren't as engaged as in other places. They lock them out of their room during the day, which I didn't approve of. If my mom wanted to go lay down and take a nap or just wanted to read a book, she should be able to. The kitchen was clean, and the rooms were monitored and had cameras and motion detectors. The staff was OK. The building was beautiful. The residents were tossing a balloon back and forth and they had a TV, but the residents seemed separated. There was one guy just staring out the window by the front. There wasn't much camaraderie. I didn't like that they lock them out of their room. I didn't want Mom to feel like she was a prisoner who had to follow orders from people, but they have a lot of nice activities going on.

Provider Response

Shauna, We are sorry to hear that you did not like our facility during your tour. Every memory care is different and it is important to find the one that fits your loved one and you. Our pricing is "all inclusive" which means it includes all levels of care, with no hidden fees or additional charges for levels of care. Each of our residents have a personal care plan, and some include locking the door to their room to prevent various behaviors that may come with their particular disease or diagnosis. No one has a locked door without permission from the family and discussion from their care team. The resident at the front-- he is one of our "greeters" he likes to say. He waits by the door for any visitor and loves to see the comings and goings of the parking lot and street. Each resident is different and at The Cottages we work hard to understand individual needs and provide everyone with the care that fits them. That's why we say that we are like family And, our hope is that our residents feel at home at The Cottages.

I toured the Cottages at Clear Lake. The lady didn't seem ready for me, she wasn't very organized, but she gave me a very good tour of the facility. It seemed odd how the kitchen was in a totally opposite building, you had to go outside, and apparently they bring the food on carts to the building where the residents are. I didn't think my mom was at the point to be at that place. One of the residents seemed to be out of it, just sleeping or sitting on the wheelchair. The prices seemed a little high, and the room sizes were small. It was far from where I live, I didn't get a good vibe, and I don't think my mom would be happy there.

I was very impressed with the Cottages at Clear Lake, but it was a little costly. What stood out to me was the care that the patients were getting and that they were all active. They were engaged in an activity while I was there and having a good time. Their rooms were really nice, and they don’t really go to the rooms until at night when they go to bed. I met the chef and saw where they went to eat. The rooms were a good size, well-maintained, and very clean.

My visit to The Cottages at Clear Lake was good. It seemed very nice and I liked it a lot. It was just a little bit too pricey for us. The dining area was nice. It was all good.

Provider Response

Jennifer, We are so glad that you liked our home. We strive to make it feel as homelike as possible for our residents and their families. We have many price options and apartment sizes. Also, all of our prices are all-inclusive so we have no level of care charges. As your loved one ages, we do not add- on additional charges for increased levels of care. We wish you the best in your search for the right fit for your loved one. We are here to help should you need it! Thank you.

My dad is at The Cottages at Clear Lake. They send us a month's review of what they're going to have as far as activities go. They're trying to keep us updated like that. They even sent a picture when my father first went there when they had gotten him to shave. We couldn't get him to shave, so that was really nice that we could see that. Everybody is very helpful and friendly. If you need to call and ask them questions, they're always eager to help you. The place is restricted. My dad can go out back, but to get into the home, you have to have a code to get in or go out. My dad has his own room; he seems to be satisfied with it. He does have a touch of dementia, so it was hard at first, but he is getting more at ease and coping a little better. They're very caring there. They take care of the patients well. They also keep the place clean. There's no odor, and they make sure it is kept up to date. Everyone that I met has been very helpful. The activities seem to be good.

I have found the staff to be most patient and caring with my mother. Their effort to understand and accommodate her likes and dislikes is amazing. I looked at many facilities and talked with others who had faced the same decision of caring for a family member with dementia prior to choosing The Cottages. I am as convinced today as I was 6 months ago that this is the place my mother needs to be.

I visited this facility

The Cottages at Clear Lake is a beautiful community. The grounds are lovely. Each of the cottages are beautifully put together. All the rooms have sensors, so if someone gets out of bed, there's a sensor. From that standpoint, it was very nice. Each cottage looks like a home that's beautifully decorated. They have a nice area in the back (although it's not as inviting) and the residents can't go out on their own. We really didn't see a whole lot of activities going on. It was not leveled care, so we didn't feel like that would be a good fit for my mom, since she's higher functioning. At mealtimes, the residents all sit together in a large dining area which is absolutely beautiful. However, they serve their meals one-by-one, so there's a lot of waiting. At this stage, there's not a whole lot of conversation. All of the rooms were companion rooms, and that sounds to me like a problem with people who can't remember what their own things are. So that was an issue. Other than that, it looked like a lovely community. For the right person, it might be the right place, but it wasn't for my mom.

We chose The Cottages because it was closer to my house and the quality was great. The staff was pretty decent, responsive, and accommodating. My father's cottage was going to be shared with another person, but they had private rooms. They place looked really great.

I loved The Cottages. It's a very nice place. If we need to move my mother ,that’s where we are going. The staff was very informative and absolutely wonderful. They called back, very informative, and very courteous. The rooms were beautiful and kept nice. The place didn’t smell, and everybody seemed to be having a good time. It was very clean and well-maintained. The grounds were very pretty and convenient to my home. They seemed to be very caring.

The Cottages at Clear Lake was very nice and had lovely staff. The only thing that was a deterrent there was the cost, but I actually loved the place. I would have loved to have Betty there, but I couldn’t move her because she had too many medications and things that she has to take. The lady who gave us the tour was amazing. She took us all around, showed us the things that were going on, and gave a complete tour. I loved the activities and loved the environment. It would have been great.

I visited this facility

At the Cottages at Clear Lake, the food looked very, very good. The residents were sitting around and eating watermelon, which I thought was nice because elderly people get dehydrated. If you had two people in a room, they were very close together, so we didn’t like the set up of the room. The staff was very friendly. They had several different kitchens, and the different hallways were color-coded, so if you are in the green hall, you wouldn’t get lost. I thought the facility was nice, but it cost more than what we wanted to spend.

Beyond being excellent caregivers, the entire staff treats the residents with love and compassion and their visitors are like extended family. The previous facility she was in was good but this is great and I recommend it.

Thank you for your great recommendation. We do believe that all of our residents and their loved ones are a part of The Cottages family! We are glad that it shows! Thanks CJ6 for taking the time to share with others. :)

My husband moved in January. I love that it looks like a home. The caregivers are great and there are lots of activities for the residents. I've been told by other family members that the food is great as well. My husband has transitioned well and this is now home for him.

I used this facility for day care for my wife and also took part in activities there, lunches and an Alzheimer's support group. This facility is Alzheimer's certified and divided into cottages that house about 8-10 patients each so patients have a more intimate environment. I have been highly pleased with all I saw there and the day care they gave my wife. I would, and have, recommended this facility to caregivers who need to place a dementia patient in residential care.
