We were at Aegis Living Dana Point just to see the area. It's very, very expensive compared to everywhere else. It's lovely, just very expensive. It's beautiful but I'm not putting my mom somewhere beautiful, I need her to get the best care she can get. The facility is top-notch, it's clean with friendly staff. It looks amazing and the food looks and smells wonderful. We also looked at the activities room, they were having an activity at the time and doing a little exercise. The rooms were on the smaller side but very clean and comfortable-looking. There's no furniture in it, but we sawa nice end-of-the hallway room and it had a view of the garden. We saw a bus there that takes the assisted living people places.

I liked a lot at Aegis. It was very clean and very spacious, and the dining room was great. I ate there, and the food was excellent. The staff members were lovely, really nice, and really good. It was a little pricey but beautiful. This one was probably the most beautiful of all of them. It was like a five-star hotel.

My stepdad moved into Aegis of Dana Point six months ago. It is not a large facility. They have nice rooms and feels more like a home. The staff has been very helpful and good. We had a good lunch there and ordered off a menu with a lot of variety. My stepdad’s room is very small, though. Because the facility is small, they don’t have a lot of the amenities that a larger facility offers, like a pool or a gym, and they don’t go on as many trips.

Aegis of Dana Point was really clean and updated with a modern look to it and felt inviting and welcoming. It did not have that hospital smell and feel; it felt like home. They had a clothing sale going on at the time of my visit that I thought was pretty cool. The staff was very friendly, answered all of my questions, and took the time to show me around. The menu looked good and had a wide variety of choices.

This facility was referred by a personal friend of mine. She mentioned that Aegis is one of her favorite places. It is pretty small -- about 65 to 75 residents. The staff is fabulous and very kind. All the staff worked in all the departments. They are cross-trained. The administration is really friendly and really knowledgeable. They are available 24/7. All of the staff knows all of the residents by name. My mother's room is not that big, but she says she doesn't need all that extra space. She's got an ocean view, and she likes it. She liked this facility because it was a little bit more contemporary, a little bit brighter, and it had a little bit of an open floor plan. She really appreciates the environment where she is right now.

I chose Aegis of Dana Point for mom because of its location; it’s close to home. What I like about the facility is that they include their memory care patients in the whole population. They do take them for day trips. The staff are very caring and I always appreciate that they always had everyone out of their rooms. They are just wonderful. She has an apartment and it is very decorated nicely. The whole experience was very upbeat and it was just like mom was in a vacation.

Aegis of Dana Point was very nice. The facility looked very attractive. The furnishings and things like that were quite elegant. The dining room looked lovely. They did have tablecloths and they looked very fancy. They showed me the menu and it was probably very good food. I talked to somebody and he took me around. He was pleasant enough but I don't think that his general job is to do tours. Everything seemed nice, but I would have to go there several times to get a better feeling for the place. I didn't see activities going on except a few of the residents that were eating breakfast. Frankly I didn't like the facility as far as for dementia people, and since my husband does, that's a big consideration for me. They had them on the second floor where they could control the coming in and goings. However, I just felt that sometimes people would want to go out and get some fresh air. I myself would like to just be able to open the door and go outside. I don't have to go outside of the facility but there was no way of really getting out except on a little terrace. The thing that turned me off was the fact that people who had Alzheimer's or dementia didn't have a way of getting outdoors. It just really bothered me.

Aegis of Dana Point offers care for residents who are mostly independent, as well as those in need of memory care. Their memory care program, named Life's Neighborhood, is unique and nationally recognized. My experience with clients that I have placed in this facility has been positive on every level, from the person who answers the phone and greets visitors in their beautiful entry to the care staff, who are well trained to assist patients at every level. The families of my clients are also pleased. As for amenities, Aegis has a secure courtyard with plenty of places to just sit and enjoy the ocean breezes (only a few blocks away) or to take a stroll. The food is excellent with multiple menu choices. The atmosphere is pleasant. The service is personal. They even offer delicious sugar free deserts. (I am 68 years old and often joke with the staff that I am ready to move in.) Residents are routinely re-evaluated by the nurse for level of care needs and the cost of care is adjusted both down and up with detailed explanation of behaviors/physical needs that require the change. I am not aware of any other facilities that adjust level of care and "reduce" the care costs (when residents improve) without requests and/or coaxing from families or social workers/case managers. The atmosphere of the entire facility is welcoming, friendly, laid-back and comfortable. Most of their staff are long-termers, which is a positive signal that the administration of the facility is good. They offer a variety of activities as well as parties for family, friends and the community.
