I visited this facility

The Oaks at Daniel Island was very clean and very bright. There were a lot of seniors milling around you. They weren't sequestered in their rooms. They had a nice open area for them to hang out in. Their dining area was nice. The building was 20 years old, but it was clean, and the outside was clean. It wasn't dingy or dark. The staff all seemed very nice, cordial and welcoming. They had a little outdoor deck area. They grill out sometimes on the weekends. There were a bunch of get-togethers, and they were doing an outing to the mall or something.

Provider Response

Christina - Thank you for the review and kind words.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

The staff at the Oaks at Daniel Island have been terrific. Christie, the business director, and Jerry, the director, have been outstanding. Christy especially, has gone out of her way to help my mother and provide a lot of support to me. It is so important for families to feel confident in the people who work with their loved ones.

Provider Response

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of our community. We are grateful for the opportunity to care for your mother.

I visited this facility

We toured The Oaks at Daniel Island and spoke with the director over there. We found out that the amount that it was going to cost to put my mother there was just going to be a little bit out of our budget. The actual facility was beautiful. However, I'm not confident at all that my mother would not get lost in there. It was huge, there were lots of halls, and there was not a lot of people walking around. It was stunning. There were a lot of amenities. The studio apartments were very nice. I had no problem with the actual facility at all. I would love to be able to put my mother there. If they say she's getting a little bit worse and needs a little bit more attention, then the price could go up significantly. Jerry was very nice, and knowledgeable, and answered all our questions. I met one resident and he allowed us to look into his apartment to see how it was set up, and he was very kind. There was no one in the dining area. There were a few people in the craft area, but we did not meet the residents there. That was another thing that kind of scared us, that my mother would be wandering around. and it was just a huge facility with big beautiful clean hallways. It was kind of empty. That thought made us think that it would scare my mother, that she would feel like she was in there by herself, without having a bunch of people around. It was a personal concern as far as my mother's mindset right now. It didn't have anything to do with the facility. The facility itself was beautiful. I wish it would have worked out for us.

Provider Response

Thank you for taking the time to leave a five star review.

My sister has moved into The Oaks at Daniel Island. There's lack of attention from the staff. There's not that many amenities. The bedroom size is very adequate. In terms of location, it's near restaurants.

I visited this facility

The Oaks at Daniel Island was closer to the paper mill, and you could tell it was close, because of the residual from the doors being opened, but the facility itself was good. The lady that gave the tour was thorough, professional, and very nice. The rooms were adequate. They were nice, big enough, and clean. We visited all the different sized rooms and we were explained about the grounds, the activities, and different things like that. So, it was a very good tour.

My wife will be moving to The Oaks at Daniel Island. It was walking distance from where I live. They gave me a full tour of the whole facility. The rooms were extremely nice. They looked very, very comfortable. It looked like they're being kept active. However, it's really hard to say because my wife's had a stroke, so I really don't know how much activity she'll be able to do. The community dining area was nice. It was a very pleasant atmosphere. I didn't see anything that would made me think otherwise. The staff were very pleasant. They looked like they had a lot of patience.

My sister is going to The Oaks at Daniel Island. The price was one reason why we went, then the atmosphere and everybody was so friendly. She felt like she fit right in, and it's really fixed up nicely, so she really liked it. The staff members were all friendly and called her by name. We did not try the food but it smelled good. Everything looked very nice, they offer crafts and games, and activities to keep them busy.

I visited this facility

I went to visit The Oaks at Daniel Island. The staff was very friendly. It's a great location. Daniel Island is a great place. It's nice and clean. The rooms were nice and spacious. They looked like they would serve my mom's needs if she ever decided to move there. There was nothing going on. A couple of the residents were watching TV and the other ones were kind of sitting around. There was some physical therapy going on with a couple of patients. Other than that, there wasn't much going on. They have activities. The staff was very friendly. I met the director and of course, the sales associate, and they were very friendly and accommodating. It was on the older end of the facility. The lobby wasn't as large as the other facility. But they were nice and clean, there were no odd smells or anything that people associate with retirement villages and the elderly. It was nice. It was one level, which was nice. They have a hair salon and a private little dining area like if you wanted to come over and have lunch. If you don't want to be in a huge cafeteria or lunchroom, then we can go to another little area to eat as well. They have an alert button.

We were very impressed. The place is very nice and clean. The grounds are really nice and have a courtyard. The people are very friendly and moved quickly so we can get my dad in there. He's excited about it and he likes it too. It's a good fit. The companion suite that my dad will be having is definitely nice and clean, and he'll have a roommate. There are two bedrooms with doors for privacy, a small living area, and a kitchenette. They have access to the dining room, library, activity room, sun room, and go on field trips. They'll take them to appointments.

We have pretty much committed my mom to here. When we were there, it seemed to be very active. The residents were pretty social, it was obviously clean, there were no offensive odors, and the staff was very interactive both with us and the residents. It just felt like a fit for my mother who is kind of a social person. The staff members were very professional, very kind, and always seemed to be very busy interacting with the residents.

I visited and the apartments were very homey. The staff was exceptional. I was very impressed with the director. It was all on one level, which was really nice. They had nice outdoor places. I really liked it. I was able to meet two of the social directors. They were preparing for some activity. I was really impressed with them. I thought the whole staff was great, personable, very caring, and very happy.

The staff member was wonderful. She spent a lot of time with my dad and me and answered every question we had. They’re very helpful and very nice. They took us around, and it was great. We saw three different sizes of rooms, which were all nice and clean and something that my father would be interested in.

It was a very nice place. It was a little more upscale as far as the rooms and so forth. Of course they don't have a separate memory facility. They don't handle you until you die. You have to be mobile. The only problem I see with them is the end of life situation. It was a nice place. They have very friendly people. The rooms are a little bigger. They have double rooms where two people can occupy. I like the single rooms better. I have tried the food, and it was very good. There was not a lot of it, but it was acceptable.

There’s a lot to do, and they are very active. They have special parties like the Veterans Day, Halloween, they have children come in, and they have a high school nearby where they have young people come in and volunteer their time. So they are interactive with the day to day. They are very clean and comfortable. They served three meals a day, and if I had a question they would find an answer, they would look into it further. They call emergency people immediately if needed, and communication is very good; immediate response. They had a good variety of food ,and it was tasty.

It is one of the places that when you walk in, you just have a good feeling about it. It was bright and everybody seemed really nice and helpful. We just had a good feeling about it when we visited, and we ended up going back there to choose it. So far with the activities, she's playing bingo and they were doing her nails. That was the only thing my mom has told me about because she's just been there for a couple of days.

It was a very nice place that was newer and maybe fresher. It does not smell like a nursing home, and I liked that. I think that's because it's a newer place. The lady who helped us was wonderful. She answered lots of questions. She was very helpful in getting us connected with the military elder care to get my father-in-law's military benefits started out so he could afford to make this move. They were really wonderful. The only thing there is that there's an issue with alcohol, and they said they can't control if one gentleman drinks or not, and we needed a place that could help us keep alcohol out of his hands. That was a real issue, and that was a real deciding factor. The rooms were lovely. There were two people who helped us. We met first with the gentleman, and he wanted to put him in a co-ed apartment with another man. I think he was just trying to fill that space with a single man. It must be a hard space to fill, but the man kept beer in his refrigerator, and we didn't think that was a good idea for our father-in-law. He has dementia, and alcohol would worsen that.

My mom is in here. It is a very nice place. It is a small community with only 49 or 50 residents. Everything is on one level so there's no elevator, which is good. The staff is wonderful. My mother seems very happy with their food. She has a very large single room with a small kitchenette and a bathroom. I would definitely recommend them to others.
