To qualify for home health care financial assistance in Arizona, seniors must meet a number of criteria, including being over the age of 60 and being a resident of Arizona with limited income. Seniors who are eligible for Medicaid and meet the requirements of needing nursing home level care will qualify for most of the home health care financial assistance programs in Arizona.

Financial Eligibility Requirements

In order to qualify for financial assistance, seniors in need of home health care must meet certain financial eligibility requirements. An individual applicant can have a maximum annual income of $18,075, while married couples can have a joint maximum income of $24,353. Arizona law allows the applicant spouse to transfer money to the non-applicant spouse to protect the financial security of the well spouse. This transfer is called the Community Spouse Monthly Income Allowance. There is a maximum amount that can be transferred, but this can help to bring the income level of the applicant spouse to a qualifying level.

Regarding asset limits, Arizona has an asset limit of $2,000 for single applicants and $4,000 for joint applicants. Assets that are excluded from this amount include primary homes, vehicles and burial plots. Countable assets include second homes, savings accounts and bonds. Certain financial assistance programs may have differing requirements.

General Requirements

In order to qualify for financial assistance programs that assist in paying for home health care, seniors in Arizona must meet certain general requirements. They must be aged 60 or older. Seniors must be legal residents or citizens of the United States of America. Applicants must show proof of residence in the state of Arizona. An assessment must show that the senior is functionally impaired and requires assistance with the tasks of daily living or medical care that can be safely provided in their own home.
