Older adults who are at risk of institutionalization may qualify for assisted living financial assistance in Kansas. Funding is designed to delay or avoid placement in a nursing home and enable seniors to live safely in a less restrictive care setting. Fiscal assistance is provided through the Frail Elder Waiver program, which is a state Medicaid program.
Frail Elder Waiver Requirements
To qualify for funding via KanCare’s Frail Elder Waiver, seniors must satisfy several strict criteria. They must be full-time residents of Kansas and be either U.S. citizens or qualifying non-citizens. The waiver program is only available for people aged 65 or older. Additionally, seniors must also be at risk of needing nursing home care, as determined by a medical professional.
Regarding finances, applicants are subject to an asset cap of $2,000. Unlike in many states, there’s no maximum income limit for waiver eligibility. However, any income that exceeds $2,742 per month must be paid toward care costs.
Frail Elder Waiver Application Process
Seniors wishing to learn more about funding for assisted living in Kansas should contact their local Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC). The first stage of the application is to complete a needs assessment via the ADRC. Seniors then need to apply through KanCare Clearinghouse and choose one of the state’s three managed care organizations, if approved.
