With her work at Caring, Rachel hopes to help other families find communities, caregivers, and at-home products that benefit elderly loved ones and make life less stressful for family caregivers

In New Mexico, a home health aide costs an average of $24.40 per hour. This price is a little more affordable than the nationwide median of $27 per hour. Home health care in New Mexico is a little more expensive than assisted living, but seniors may be able to take advantage of a few financial aid programs offered by the state government.

What Are the Long-term Costs of a Home Health Aide?

The cost of a home health aide in New Mexico ranges from $24.15 per hour in Las Cruces to $33.45 per hour in Santa Fe. According to the Genworth Cost of Care Survey, this comes to $153 per day as a statewide average. Each month, seniors in New Mexico pay close to $4,652 for home health aide services.

Home health aides are trained and certified professionals who provide assistance with medication, personal care, at-home therapy and mobility. They can also be companions and advocates for isolated seniors. This type of care is ideal for many seniors, of whom nearly 80% reported a desire to stay at home as they age, according to the AARP.

What’s the Annual Cost of a Home Health Aide and Where Can I Get Help Paying For It?

In New Mexico, there are 89 providers of home health care serving the state. Annually, they cost $55,827, on average. This is just a little more expensive than the state’s median assisted living price of $53,970. Home health aides are also a little costlier than homemaker services, which average $55,827 per year.

The state of New Mexico has a few programs designed to help seniors cover the costs of in-home health services. This includes the New Mexico Medicaid Community Benefit Program. This initiative covers a range of services, from home modifications to health aide services, helping aging adults remain where they’re comfortable.
