No, SCAN Health Plan does not offer payment options for assisted living or any other types of long-term care. As a Medicare Advantage provider in California and several other states, SCAN only includes medical, dental, prescription drug, vision and hearing benefits. This type of policy does not cover long-term care; however, if you receive services such as home health care, physical rehabilitation and hospice care as part of your assisted living care, your SCAN coverage will pay for these medical services.
What is a Medicare Advantage plan?
A Medicare Advantage plan is a policy that provides Medicare health coverage through a private insurer. Medicare Advantage plans must at least cover the services included in Original Medicare Part A and Part B, which incorporate hospital and medical insurance.
Medicare Advantage, sometimes called Part C, bundles Part A and Part B with prescription drug coverage (Part D). These plans often include vision, hearing and dental coverage as well. Unlike Original Medicare, most Medicare Advantage plans have a maximum limit on out-of-pocket costs, which could save you money on care.
Does Medicare cover assisted living?
Medicare does not cover assisted living or other forms of long-term care. However, seniors often qualify for Medicaid coverage, which offers a waiver for long-term care in many states. These programs vary but often pay for part of the cost of assisted living.
In addition, Medicare will pay for medical services included in the cost of assisted living. Examples include healthcare provider visits, medications and mental and physical health assessments.
