Some of Aetna’s insurance plans include assisted living coverage. The company offers Recovery Care Insurance Plans as part of its Senior Supplemental Insurance Program. This plan pays for assisted living if you’re recovering from a serious injury or illness. It’s a type of Medicare supplement insurance.
Who qualifies for Aetna assisted living coverage?
You qualify for Aetna assisted living coverage if you need help with at least two activities of daily living, such as bathing, grooming and dressing, or have a cognitive impairment. You must also receive at least three weekly 60-minute home care visits for assistance related to your illness or injury. Aetna only offers this type of policy for members aged 50 to 89. However, seniors can receive benefits beyond 89 years old.
How much does Aetna pay for assisted living?
Aetna pays up to $400 per day for assisted living. When you buy your Recovery Care Insurance Plan, you’ll have the choice of 90, 180, 270 or 360 days of total coverage. Aetna offers available waiting periods of 0, 20 or 100 days. You’re responsible for assisted living costs that occur after you file a claim for coverage through the end of the waiting period.
When coverage starts, you’ll receive the nontaxable benefit amount directly. Policies are renewable as long as your premiums remain paid in full.
What assisted living services does Aetna cover?
Aetna covers the full range of assisted living services. Your benefit amount pays your rent and fees for this level of care. In return, you receive access to social and recreational activities, 24-hour emergency care, help with activities of daily living as needed and medication monitoring and meals. The exact services depend on the offerings at your assisted living community.
