My mother is at Signature Pointe. The price is OK and the place is OK, but there’s poor communication. Up to this day, not one time have they called me about her. They also lie. When I call they transfer me from one floor to the other, and I was on hold for almost 30 minutes one day. Her room is fine. Everything is fine. It’s just poor communication on the staff’s part. They don’t like talking to you. The food they bring out to her is good, but they don’t readily take care of her when she uses the bathroom. Her room is small, but it accommodates her needs. They maintain the facility well. The price is just a little high. She’s in the memory care on the second floor, which I like because she can’t go anywhere. They have elevators, and you have to have the code to get down.

My mother is in Arden Courts of Richardson. We’ve been pleased with them. They were very nice. She’s in memory care. I liked it a lot. The people there have been impressive. They really seem to be on top of things. They’re very friendly, and seem to be generally caring. It’s good; it’s really nice. I think she’s comfortable there.
They have activities for a couple of hours in the morning, and again in the afternoon. There’s lots to do, and she enjoys the activities. Given the situation, it’s as good as it can be. They do everything from singalongs to people coming in to visit and speak to them. They do group exercises. They have group activities to the extent they’re able to participate, and my mom really enjoyed that stuff. They do have a salon. They have a really nice backyard with a big wall around it. It’s very well-kept and very nice. My mom loves to walk out there.

They have games, movie nights with popcorn, and sometimes they’d have ice creams. It is very high-quality care at a lower cost than what I found other facilities to be.

They just found someone that could show me around, and that was it. I didn’t meet anybody that ran the place. We had to walk through assisted living, and it didn’t have a good fragrance. The memory care was fine. The amenities were pretty basic, and it was just not appealing. A personal tour by someone that could answer your questions would be a good suggestion for this facility.

GB Allen is exceptional! My parents enjoy all the daily activities and we especially appreciate the Christian care given lovingly to each resident. They have a spacious Jack and Jill room setup with a private bath which they both find very comfortable. My mom’s favorites are mealtime and watching the tomatoes grow in the garden. Over a 6 month period my parents tried several different communities that were not quite acceptable. Finding a home at GB Allen has been like the sun after the rain! Even though GB Allen is quite far from my home, it is well worth the extra drive time.

Oxford Glen at Sachse Memory Care was a nice place. The room sizes were a little small for individuals. They need to be just a little bit bigger; a twin or a medical bed probably is all that fits in the room. The staff seemed nice. There were a lot of staff members there when we went to visit. They were playing games with the residents while we were there, doing a lot of one on one with each resident, so I like that about the place. It has a very clean environment. There’s not too much noise, it was pretty quiet.
I saw them playing a game when we went there, some type of game where they were playing with everyone else. They have a salon on site, and a rehabilitation area, a room for rehab. They have a big outdoor space with a nice garden. There were couches and TV, and stuff like that everywhere.

What to Consider About Memory Care in Plano
Memory care is regulated by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services in Plano and the rest of the state. This government body maintains a searchable list of long-term care facilities detailing whether a facility has Alzheimer’s certification and documenting any inspection violations or enforcement actions.
Benefits and Drawbacks of Memory Care in Plano
- The Medical City Plano Hospital and Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Plano make emergency care and medical treatment in the city highly accessible. Seniors can also benefit from specialized surgical hospitals such as the Legent Hospital and numerous clinics and dentists operating in the local area.
- Plano’s climate is fairly comfortable throughout the year, and seniors living in the city can enjoy around 229 sunny days — slightly higher than the national average of 205. The region typically only sees 1.5 inches of snow a year, but temperatures in January (32.5 degrees) tend to be colder than in other Texan cities, and summer is typically warmer (93.6 degrees) than in other states.
- The cost of living in Plano is higher at 109.1 on a 100-point scale than the state average of 94.2 and the national average of 100. However, much of this high cost is attributable to housing, with health, groceries and accommodation only slightly more expensive than the state and national median.
- Violent crimes are infrequent in Plano, ranking at 13 on a 100-point scale, compared to 22.7 nationwide. Property crimes are rated at 29.6, which is closer to the national average of 35.4. Overall, the region may provide a safer place for seniors to live.
- Sales tax in Plano is 8.25%, which is higher than the national average of 7.3% and may make groceries slightly more expensive. However, Texas’s personal income tax rate is 0%, making it possible to offset the higher sales tax for seniors moving to Plano from other states.
- Plano has a respiratory illness risk of 38.8, compared to 37.2 for all of Texas and 38.5 nationwide. This rating signifies that the air quality is comparable to most areas of the United States. While Plano is a large city, it generally has better air quality and a lower risk of respiratory illness for seniors compared to other densely populated locations, such as the Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington Metropolitan Area.
