I visited Oakmont of Simi Valley on behalf of a family member to learn more about the memory care services it provides for Alzheimer’s residents. I met with the director of the facility and a number of members of the memory care staff. Everyone was very helpful, forthright and informative. The marketing coordinator, Cristina, was especially patient and professional in answering all of my questions concerning the operation of the facility, and in providing multiple tours. The monthly charges appeared to me to be reasonable in comparison to other memory care facilities. I was also impressed with the physical layout of the facility, which included ample walking space, activity areas, pleasant dining areas and a large outside courtyard. The residents appeared to be well supervised and occupied with activities at the times that I visited. Ultimately, however, I decided that my relative’s present condition was not conducive to a move, but Oakmont of Simi Valley would definitely be number one on my list, if that move becomes feasible in the future.

Oakmont of Simi Valley was absolutely beautiful. We were given a lovely tour by Caroline and it went very, very well. The thing is that it's a little more care than I need. It's assisted living and I'm more interested in independent living. It had excellent amenities. It's beautifully decorated and very comfortable, and the activities there seemed wonderful. They have a great screening room, a lounge, and a dining room that's gorgeous. The activities they listed were just terrific. The staff was charming, very informative, helpful, and very polite. The outdoor was gorgeous and beautifully laid out. It had a lovely courtyard where they were doing an activity like a popsicle event.

We toured Oakmont of Simi Valley. I really liked that a lot, but that one's just a lot more expensive. So the price kind of scared us away a little bit. The staff was fantastic. We didn't go in there with a scheduled tour set. We just wanted to go look at it, and they were very inviting, and brought us right in. We toured with them right away. They were very thorough and made us feel comfortable. That probably would have been one of our top choices, but the only thing we didn't like about it was the cost. The cost was normal, but it seems like everything there is kind of nickel and dimed. So I kind of was wondering if one month it would be $8,000 and the next month it might be $9,000, the next month it might be $8,200. Everything was sort of piecemeal in there depending. Like if she needed medication, that was going to be an extra charge, if she needed her pants changed, it would be extra charge. The Oakmont has different levels of care, depending on what they need, and that's what changes your price tag, if you will. I think the level of care could change and the price would just keep going up. We're on a strict budget because we have two parents that need care, so we have to mind our funds for a significant time. It's beautiful, it's very friendly, it's very open, it's very bright. I definitely felt comfortable there. You feel like you're at home.

We selected Oakmont of Simi Valley for my father. I found it to be very friendly. It's brand new, so it's very clean. The people are very nice, caring, and professional. They had good-sized apartments and they had restaurants, a fitness center, a place where you can get your hair done, a movie theater, an activities room, and a library. They have everything my dad needed. It's a good size apartment and brand new, so everything's clean, new carpet, new appliances. The facilities are brand new. They gave us a calendar of all the activities and they went over the calendar, what's available, and how frequently. They let us eat in the restaurant for free to try their meals. The staff during the tour was wonderful, very friendly, worked with us, and answered all of our questions. I went by myself, then I took my father and we went on another tour. We wanted to make sure before I brought my father that it was the place that I liked because I didn't want to bring him to something that I didn't like. I was pleased with everyone. I know they're brand new, but even the people who give you the medications were a family. The people who work at the front desk remembered us already. They knew my dad by name. They're still working on getting a better cook, but they have promised they would look into it and try to make sure that they make the improvements based on comments that they've received from us as well as other people.
