Stillwater Hospice is outstanding. They are very compassionate and very personable. They gave me a bath chair and any supplies that we may need for my mother. They first assessed her and looked over the medicine that she got from the nursing care where she came from and said that there were some things she did not need or weren't good under her condition (dementia). They have a doctor that oversees everything. They ordered the medicine and it was here the very next day. The bed came in the next day, too. So, everything that I wanted was delivered right away. They get things done. The nurses come twice a week as well as the aides. They come in to bath her and they'll call before they come. They go through all the safety rules before they walk into the house. The social services also come once a week. I have never had this kind of service, ever.

Very nice establishment; doesn't feel like a nursing home particularly. Staff always seemed helpful and took care of the patients to the best of their ability. We would run errands for patients, from grocery shopping to bringing cheeseburgers from McDonalds. I also did some work on the landscaping for them, and the outside area is quite nice; benches and foliage, lakes, etc. I have had some experiences with other nursing homes, and this is a vast improvement. There's a lot more life in this place, and it doesn't have that "hospital" feel that some institutions have. The home relies heavily on voulenteer work, and there is a dedicated group of people who come in and speak with the patients, cook for them, bring in service animals, etc. I'd always said I'd never want to end up in a nursing home, but if I had to pick one, Visiting Nurse and Hospice care would be an excellent choice. Capacity is somewhat limited however, and there is often a waiting list to be admitted. That would be the main change/adjustment I would make- they need more rooms so they can handle a larger volume of patients, and they seem to have the land to make that possible. In terms of location, Visiting Nurse and Hospice home is located in southwest allen county, a wealthy and spacious area of Fort Wayne. As someone who deals with the food in this institution, they take food safety extremely seriously, and every single ingredient is prominently labeled with expiration dates, etc. The staff spends quite a bit of time properly training voulenteers so that they can uphold the standards for this type of care.
