Whether your parent is bed-bound or up and around a little, look for opportunities to get her body moving. Bathing is a wonderful time for a gentle mini-workout that will get her blood circulating and her joints and muscles working.
As you wash your parent's arms, gently move them up and down for a few minutes. Do the same with each leg. Bend and straighten her knees. Wiggle and stretch her fingers and toes as you soap and rinse them.
Be mindful of medical conditions such as arthritis that limit your parent's physical abilities. Ask her medical team beforehand whether there's anything you should be aware of.
If your parent can bathe independently, encourage her to move about in the bath as much as she can, slowly and gently. Safety first: Make sure the tub and shower are equipped with devices like rubber mats and grab bars.
