I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

TRAUMATIZED CUSTOMER The most stressful time in my life began when I placed my Mother at Brookdale South. In her 10 day stay they let her fall 3 times, didn’t shower or bathe her whatsoever (I had to take it upon myself to bathe her, mind you the shower room was filthy), served her seafood in which she is highly allergic to, and lost 50% of her wardrobe that she came in with (even after we labeled everything). They called me the second night she was there to say that my Mom was too busy for them and they couldn’t provide 1:1 care and told me that I needed to spend the night with her or they would send her to the ER. From that point on, a family member stayed the night with her for the remaining 8 nights, while we frantically tried to find an appropriate adult family home for her. Now if all of that wasn’t traumatizing enough, as soon as we pulled Mom out of this awful facility they billed us $7000 for these 10 days of hell and I’m still getting bills from them even now that my Mom has passed away. One of the bills was for $20,000!! When I would try to call financing or even text and negotiate there was no response on their end. So as I prepare my Moms funeral, I’m also having to deal with the mental, emotional and financial aftermath of Brookdale South. I’ve had better treatment from my veterinarian when my dog passed away than I’ve had for my human mother from this place.

My father has been at Brookdale Puyallup South for about a month now. The staff has been great. They specialize in Alzheimer’s care, so I know he is getting the care he needs in a safe place. The facility is clean and nice and located in a good area with an outdoor walking space. They have brain games in the morning and trips outside of the facility on a bus that goes on tour to museums and stuff like that. Overall, the staff really stands out to me.

Brookdale was just really nice, and it didn’t smell like some of them when you walk in. I liked the layout of it, and it seemed really friendly. The rooms were very nice.

I visited this facility

We visited Brookdale Puyallup South. We had a really good visit. The rooms/apartments were nice, homey, and clean. It was a nice facility. Everything was really nice in the dining room. The chef brought us out a complimentary pumpkin pie to take home, and that was really good. What impressed me most about this facility is that it was clean and secure, and the people that work there were experienced with taking care of memory care patients so they met their needs. It was a very secure facility.

I visited this facility

I visited Brookdale Puyallup South for my dad. It is a smaller and a little bit simpler than the other facility. The rooms were just too fancy. My dad would be better off in like a nursing home type, so that it would be less expensive. He doesn't need a carpeted room. The facility was just too much for him. It looked clean enough, but it was more for a retired person to live in than for somebody who has dementia. It didn't fit our criteria.

Clare Bridge is the closest to us, and it's a nice facility. It is really cute and clean. It looks decent, and the grounds are very nice. They list on the wall where the rooms are, and out in front is something called Town Square where everybody can get together, do exercises, watch TV, play bingo, or whatever they want. It is like a little town. I am happy with my father-in-law being there. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Even the management are very nice. They really do well with him, and I have no problem with them at all. I see their meals, and they look very good. For a single room, his room is quite big. They have their own bathroom in their room. They have activities like bingo, bowling, and they do karaoke. It seems like a very nice place to be in. I will recommend them to other people.

I visited this facility

My dad was at Clare Bridge back in January. Their service and care were good. This is a secured place where they locked them out and they can't get out; however, there were lots of rooms and places to get lost in. I had to get my father out of there because I was desperately afraid for his care there. I was unhappy with them. Before he moved in, I discussed with their director my concerns about how expensive their facility is. We talked also about my dad's needs and she said they will take care of him exactly the way the nursing home does. However, when they gave me the contract, it did not say there what the director and I had verbally agreed to. They don't have good communication. My dad was also miserable and unhappy there. There were piles of wet clothes lying on his floor and when I asked their aide about it, she said that she didn't know that he wears diapers and she just put regular shorts on him. When I finally moved him out there, they harassed me for probably six months for a $200 charge, and even sent it to collection. That amount was totally not substantiated. I had no idea what it was for.

I visited this facility

Clare Bridge of Puyallup has a reputation for taking some of the most difficult cases and for not giving up on a resident. That might be important to some families with an especially difficult to manage parent. In retrospect, I think it is more about the money--keep those rooms rented no matter what. Unfortunately, the facility appears to be understaffed. Residents sit for 45 minutes to an hour in the dining room to get their meals served. Our mother was at Clare Bridge for 7 months and it took 6 months to get a name tag for her door. The layout of the facility is confusing for Alzheimer's patients and they are in each others' rooms all the time because they can't find their own room. Whenever we stopped in to check on Mom we felt unwelcome, that they would rather we just paid our bills and not ask too many questions. We have moved Mom to another facility where the atmosphere is much more welcoming and less chaotic. Clare Bridge of Puyallup is expensive for the quality of care provided. We think smaller is better, but increasing the ratio of caregivers to residents might help this facility.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Clare Bridge of Puyallup was just one-story with about 260 units. There was a geriatric psychiatrist who came in. It was well-staffed because they had RNs during the day, LVNs in the afternoon and medical technicians in the evening. There was always someone available who had specific training since my husband was a difficult case. On weekends, they had a ratio of one staff per six residents. Their activity director was fantastic and they had a lot of activities. By far, they were top of the line in the area when it came to the ability to take care of complicated cases.

I visited this facility

We went to the Clare Bridge of Puyallup and we had a chat with their administrator. The place was great, but we were not happy with the lady that we talked with because she wasn't paying attention to us. My mom is in the beginning stage of Alzheimer's and we're looking for a place that we can go for resting because she's still able to be with us at our house. We want to make sure it's a nice place, and they can relate to people with memory problems. We're definitely not choosing this place for her.

I visited this facility

Hi Guys I recently took my client, to observe assisted living facilities. And when we entered, it felt and looked like we were on holiday to the French Quarter in New Orleans. It was bright, lively, had a huge bird gage with singing canaries. it had little faux store fronts, one had a beauty salon, working by appointment, another was a tea/coffee stop shop, another a display of patient talents. And the staff, absolutely divine. Their compassion for these individuals, well so far it is unmatched!! The folks that live there are in various stages of Alz/Dementia. And yet, for my client, she was not frightened for her future. I think it was because of how she saw them being taken care of, not "babied", but they had a choice, and if they were non verbal, their assigned staff person 6 or 8 to 1 staff, but the staff person knew each individual personally. And knew what they needed. There were eyes everywhere. Never did we see even one single person alone. Someone was always watching and waiting to offer assistance, a push, a arm to walk with, or even a partner in bingo. My client, Wendy really knew, that when that time came, while she had a little spunk left, that is the place. Check them out. http://www.brookdaleliving.com/clare-bridge-of-puyallup.aspx
