I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad is currently a resident of Brighton Gardens of Wheaton. The staff is good. They're not able to manage difficult cases. The people have to be pretty independent, and it requires a fair amount of family support. The food, to be specific, is awful. It's terrible. The building is clean and has a very good structure. It's newer, very nice. They have excellent activities like movies, games, singing, and puzzles. They have activities of different sorts. This is a friendly environment.

Provider Response

Hi James, thank you for sharing your feedback about Brighton Gardens of Wheaton. We appreciate your kind words about the team and community. Your input helps us improve and provide the best experience for our residents.

My mother is in Brighton Gardens of Wheaton. The facility is nice. They're upgrading it now. It's been under a little bit of construction, but they're redoing their dining room and stuff, and it looks nice. They have a lot of activities, which is good. The care has been good. It's just sometimes it's been a little bit hard to reach people, like to get callbacks and that kind of thing. That's the only issue I've had. My mom likes to play cards and they have a Bridge group, so she's able to continue to do that. They have movie nights and other games. The staff is very nice. The food is very good. It's a good variety, and it's tasty. They do a good job with the food.

Provider Response

The tour I had at Brighton Gardens of Wheaton was fine, but I didn't like the location. It was at the end of a strip mall, but the inside was very nice. The lady that gave the tour was also very nice and very informative. They showed me a room where you would have your sink and your refrigerator. There's no microwave. There's just one shelf, and you need more than that. The building itself was beautiful. When I was thre, they were playing some games in the lobby. They have a library and you could go into the dining room any time and order a meal.

My father moved into Brighton Gardens of Wheaton. The place is very modern. His apartment is a studio, and it is very clean and well thought out. Considering the difficulties people of his age may have, small things like the bathroom light is on an automatic switch. It's not very heavy to open the door. Stuff like that makes a huge difference for him. Compared to other places, I think the staff exceeds my expectations, given the value of the place. The dining room is very inviting and very clean. The food itself is not gourmet, but it's not cafeteria food. It's good value and it's one of the factors when I selected that for my father. I visited some other places that had excellent food, but I would be paying an extra $2000 a month. While I was there one time, I noticed that there was a community crossword where someone got a projector out and they collaborated on doing a crossword together. So, it was kind of a mental stimulation. There was a luau on time, and my dad went to movie nights at least once or twice a week.

My mother moved into Brighton Gardens of Wheaton. They were able to provide a very nice living situation for her. She chose the 1-bedroom apartment, and she has her own refrigerator and microwave. At an extra cost, they can move her in her wheelchair from her apartment down to the dining room or wherever else in the facility she wants to go. The people there are exceedingly nice. I appreciated the fact that every employee that I met while I toured the place worked there for at least 10 years or more. And I like that it is a smaller facility. I think there are only under 90 residents there. They play games all the time, like bingo and bridge. And they offer a movie every night.

I visited a few places and Brighton Gardens of Wheaton seems to have the most activities. It is one of the oldest establishments. The physical facility is over 25 years old. Almost all the ones I visited are newer, brighter, and bigger, but the activities just didn't compare with Brighton Gardens. My wife is in memory care and because she is wheelchair-bound, she has hospice. She's happy there. Her room is light and bright. It looks out in a broad parklike setting. It's quite roomy, and it's a sleeping room. They have so many activities during the day that she participates in, so she doesn't spend much time in the room. They go on outdoor trips and picnics and so forth, and they have constant activities during the day and crafts. They're always doing something. They are activities where their residents are involved. They're not just sitting and looking or listening. She's happy enough with the food. She has never complained about it. The staff is wonderful and plentiful. She's very happy with the staff, with the facilities, and so forth. She likes it there. I'm looking out for her happiness and she is happy and that's all I'm concerned about.

The Brighton Gardens of Wheaton was wonderful. It was very inviting and had a homey feel to it. The staff was very knowledgeable and very welcoming. The room was very spacious and it was something that was accommodating for the needs that I was there for. The room I saw was very modern and updated. I toured their assisted living and the amenities were wonderful. From what I recall, I think they had a weight room where the seniors could work out or do therapy sessions. They also had a kitchen area. The dining room area was very spacious and looked like very good eating takes place there. I think there was a library as well on the premises. There's also a section where the seniors could wind down and watch movies. The upkeep and the maintenance of the facility were great. There was no trash seen or visible. Everything seems to be in its proper place and sanitized.

Brighton Gardens of Wheaton was just a very cheerful place. It's clean, and all the people were very friendly. The rooms were nice. I have nothing negative to say about it. The staff was very nice, was able to answer questions, and was very helpful. We ran into various people along the way. She stopped and let us talk to the person in charge of therapy, the nursing staff, and the person that was in charge of the activities. I think she was very thorough and very good. We were not there during mealtime. There wasn't anyone in that area, but they had a nice area to sit. They also had an area that they kind of consider 24-hours, so if you missed a particular meal, you could get something to eat in that area at any time. There was coffee and stuff out and available. As far as activities, they had movies, puzzles, and they have a library. They said that they had a flower arranging the day we were there because they get flowers donated from a local grocery store. I know that they gave us a weekly activity, and it was full. I didn't pay close attention to all the things, but I know they offered stuff every single day. They did bingo and bunco, and they had game rooms and all kinds of activities in that. They did stretching in the morning, I think she even said Taichi. So, there was a whole list of things. I can't think of anything I would look for them to change. Everyone that we talked to was incredibly nice. I feel they did everything they could to help, so they followed through with everything they said they would do. We heard back in timeframes when we were supposed to. They were quick to get us in there, we didn't have to wait. They returned the calls immediately, so everything was good with the staff as well. I wasn't overly impressed with their therapy room as far as the equipment they had there, but other than that, everything was good.

I liked Brighton Gardens of Wheaton. I liked the location of it and the person who showed us around was nice, as well as the other staff. There was a therapy dog and a little area up to the side where you could immediately go and hang out. The lady was wonderful and did so much to make us feel at home and answered tons of questions for us.

My dad stayed in Brighton Gardens of Wheaton. It was OK. I just didn't think the staff was very good when he was there. I was able to dine there once, and the food was fine. They had activities in the great room in the morning. The memory care didn't have that much activity, but the facility was very nice.

My dad has been a resident at Brighton Gardens in Wheaton. So far it's been great, everyone's very caring, and they all seem to really care about my dad. They get back to us quickly if we have a question. He's in a small studio apartment, they have different sizes like a small, a medium, and maybe a large. Everything's kind of shut down because of COVID. He just started being able to get let out of his room and off of quarantine following two or three negative COVID tests. So far, I think they have yoga, and they've brought him down to do singing as a group with a music instructor. I know that they do a lot of activities that they typically do, but as far as what he's done so far, it's very limited since he's literally just got out of quarantine. Normally they have lots of stuff to do. I haven't tried their food, but my dad has and he said it's good. I haven't been in there often, only once when he moved in, so all I can say about the facility is that it seemed nice and pretty straightforward. Kind of reminds me of a hotel, like an old hotel. They have ample parking and a cute little circle drive in the front door for people that want to come pick up their loved ones. They just park the car in the circle drive. At the front of the building are rocking chairs and an outdoor patio. I do remember walking in to get to the elevator when we moved him in. We passed by doors to another courtyard that you could access from the inside, so they have a space for people to hang out in when COVID is not around or when it's not cold.

My mom moved to Brighton Gardens of Wheaton and they're very caring and meet her needs. It's small, family-like, and everybody who works there are very nice and helpful. They have music, social things at 3:00, movie nights for men and women (and for both), sports night for the guys, bake sales, my mom gets transported to church every Sunday, and they also have church in the place. The aides are wonderful, very caring, nice, and personable. It's a good fit for my mother. They help her with her shower and they have physical therapy for her. My mom loves the food and has never complained about a meal. The cleanliness is exceptional.

I am/was a resident of this facility

The people in Brighton Gardens of Wheaton are wonderful, including the nurses and aides. Even if you have trouble with someone, they'd take care of it instantly. The therapist is the best I've ever had, she's zeroed in on things that other therapists usually ignore. She pushes me a little harder, which really is fine with me. They're wonderful, they'll start you with warm ups and they'll give you a massage before sending you back to your room. I love that you can do your own personal decorating in your own room for occasions like Easter or St. Paddy's Day. I like that there are shutter boxes where you can put your family pictures. It adds a personal touch. Everybody knows your name here, and they know who you are before you even know who they are. I'm in a companion suite, and if I had this whole suite to myself it would be huge. I put my clothes chest in the closet and there's a ton of room still, the pantry is also huge, and the bathroom is wonderful. My wheelchair just fits around here fine. At first I was homesick, but they always have something going on like games, movies, and we even had an Easter party today for the families.

Brighton Gardens of Wheaton was pretty and nice. The rooms were very tiny. They charged per your needs, like if she took one to three pills a day, they would charge her one amount of money, and if she took between four and six pills a day, it would go up another $300. It was cafeteria-style. I saw a shared two-bedroom that looked like a little shoe box. It was unbelievable how small it was. Everything was fine, but when I asked them if she ran out of money would she be allowed to stay there, and they said she would have to go to a government-assisted home.

I went to Brighton Gardens of Wheaton for my father. It is assisted-living, and memory unit. They had the same wonderful program. They didn’t have the residents staying in their rooms. They would pull them out so that they are with other people, which helps their memory. They have activities there, but this one has a little bit more than the other facility. I think it was seven days a weeks that they have something for them to do; so there was never a downtime. The facility was very clean, and very nicely done.

Brighton Gardens of Wheaton wasn't as nice as the other places. It's 11 years old, and it's showing its wear and tear. The staff was fine. I didn't have any problem with them. It has a section just for memory care, but it has other sections too. It was just too overwhelming; it was too large. They showed us the whole place, and the dining area was average. They should spruce it up, make it look nicer and paint it up. It wasn't a good fit for my dad.

My mom is at Brighton Gardens of Wheaton. Everybody is very nice. They take good care of her. It is a clean place. Her room is very nice and clean. There is enough room for her. They have games, crafts, singing, exercise, and trips. The facility seems very well secured. I think everything is OK. I can't think of something to be better because my mother has been very happy there. The food is good. The dining room is very nice. They have flowers on the table and tablecloths. They have very nice dishes.

I have been very happy with Brighton Gardens, to the point that I have placed two family members there, in the memory ward. I am familiar with 3 other Assisted Living/Memory Care facilities, and Brighton Gardens Wheaton is outstanding in that the employees do function as a team. Employees tend to stay; I don't see a lot of turnover in the 2.5 years that I have been visiting daily. The building is sunny and there are many activities suitable to the abilities of the residents. True, occasionally something falls through the cracks, but humans run the place and this can happen. The facility is clean, the flowers are fresh, the food tastes good, and the staff is responsive to my requests for help with my family members. I see the staff working hard to help the residents adapt to their group home. The activities director is amazing, and the family events are totally delightful; you can't believe it 'til you have been there.

For some reason, I just didn't feel that comfortable at Brighton Gardens. It just seemed less personal than the other facility that we went to. The rooms were a pretty good size; they were nice. However, the whole atmosphere wasn't what I was looking for. It was more along the lines where everybody had to go and eat in that same place. They had everything centralized in one great big dining room downstairs versus having ones upstairs. Overall, there wasn't anything bad about it, it is just I didn't like it that much, that's all.

We had a brief visit at Brighton Gardens of Wheaton. We felt that there wasn't a lot of information shared with us. When you ask some questions, they just answer them and they don't expand on it at all. The size of the room was fine. We were not able to eat there, but their food selection seemed good. The dining room was really nice. They did inform us in general about their activities, but we weren't there long enough to really notice a lot of detail.

I like the staff at Brighton Gardens of Wheaton. They are very involved and caring. It is very clear that they love the residents there and they look out for them. I was able to eat there, and the food was good. They have a good selection, it's fresh, cooked well, and it doesn’t feel institutional at all. We've been very happy with them. The room is very nice, and the bathroom is very nicely laid out. It's very easy for my mom to get around, and she just finds it perfectly comfortable for herself. Actually, everything about it, physically, is very nice.

Our father was a resident of the dementia unit of Brighton Gardens, Wheaton. In front of a staff member, he displayed a non-violent behavior, common among dementia patients & was immediately sent to the psych ward of a local hospital. A Brighton Gardens executive waited 7 days, against the medical advise of the hospital's psychiatrist & nursing staff, to let us know that our father would no longer be welcome there. They marketed "dementia care", but didn't want to do the work, even if the behavior is non-violent. I would NOT recommend Brighton Gardens to anyone with memory care issues.

Brighton Gardens of Wheaton is a new facility and mom is there. Her room is adequate and fits within our budget. The facility is very clean and well maintained. There are several programs for elderly to keep them mentally and physically active. The staff is very accommodating. They have several activities that is in time for the holidays like for example bringing in children at Halloween and having the residents give them candy which they are all delighted about. They have musical activities going on and also arts and crafts. Mom is always busy. Her physical condition is also always being monitored. Their dining room and food are both excellent.

I thought this was a great facility. The staff was friendly and courteous and all the residents seemed to very happy. Upon arriving, I was immediately greeted at the front desk and asked what I could be helped with. The worker helped me the find the resident I was looking for without any complaining. I thought the residents' rooms were all very nice and seemed like their personal apartments. The group dining area was very pleasant and the menu had various options and changed often. There were papers and magazines everyday for the residents to read and there was also a library offered to the residents. Also, there were activities available daily to the residents such as bingo, or nail painting, and there even a mini salon! It was a great experience to visit and my friend's grandmother seemed happy to be able to try and live on her own as best she could somewhere where immediate help was available.

Under the same ownership as the Sunrise chain of facilities, Brighton Gardens provides reliable quality assisted living care. This particular building is set off the main road near the Danada shopping center, and has been there for a number of years. It is a fairly sizable facility that provides a couple small outdoor areas for resident use, which can become crowded on nice weather days. There is no easy way to go for a walk from the building's location. The interior of the building is always maintained in neat, clean, and well maintained condition and boasts the same warm, home-like décor that Sunrise facilities have become known for. There are numerous large common areas on the ground level for resident use, with few available common areas on the residential floors. The apartments come in several different sizes with different price points, which are within industry standards. Over time many long-term residents have developed the need for more assistance and many have come-and-go or around the clock private duty companions; many apartments are spacious enough to readily accommodate this. Most apartments are bright, depending on where in the building they are situated. The food is above average with most meals looking, smelling and tasting quite good. Both the management and direct care staff are typically plentiful enough in number to meet resident needs, though it does get busy at times so waiting is not unusual. Care provided is kind, compassionate, and appropriate; staff are often willing to "go the extra mile" if they are requested to.
