General Guidelines: Standard Units

  • All creative is due 5 business days prior to launch date.
  • We use 24x7 Real Media to serve ads.
  • Third party ad tags are accepted. If you are sending 24x7 Rich Media tags, we prefer internal redirects. For all other tag types, please send redirects and i-frame/javascript tags.
  • No 4th party tags accepted.
  • Maximum file size is 25KB for GIFs and JPEGs, 39KB for rich media.
  • Expandable units must be user-initiated with a mouse-over or a click.
  • Animations are limited to 3 loops.
  • Sound must be user-initiated.
  • No embedded 3rd party surveys

General Guidelines

Caring supports a variety of rich media and expanding rich media technologies.

Flash Guidelines

  • Flash Version
    • Recommend using Flash 9 (84%+ penetration)
    • Please refer to Adobe's best practices here.
  • Fallback GIF
    • A fallback GIF/JPEG is required for Flash files.
    • Max file size is 25KB
  • Pixel Dimensions
    • Small Rectangle: 180x150
    • Leaderboard: 728x90
    • Medium Rectangle: 300x250
  • File Size
    • Up to 39KB initial load
    • Up to 3 additional loads of up to 39K may be initiated after a user moves their cursor over, or clicks on the ad unit.
  • Click Tracking
    • Do not hardcode URLs.
    • Use the following Flash clickTag specification for passing click-through information into Flash movies. Click here.
    • Click-throughs should spawn a new browser window.
    • Send the target URL associated with the correct "clickTag" designation. Please try to limit clickTags to one per creative.
    • The entire unit should be clickable, not just the final frame or animation.
  • Sound
    • Creative must default to no sound.
    • User may initiate sound on a click.
  • Video
    • Creative must default to no video.
    • User may initiate video on a click.
  • Other
    • No embedded 3rd party surveys.

Expanding Rich Media Execution

For expanding rich media placements, consider the above standard guidelines as well as the following:

  • Expansion must be user-initiated with a mouse-over or a click
  • Expansion must close after 5 seconds on mouse-out.
  • As with standard placments, sound and video must be user initiated.
  • Panel must retract immediately when the user withdraws the mouse. Prominent "Close" button must also be on top right corner for all expandable units.
  • Maximum file size is 39KB on initial load.
  • Up to 3 additional downloads of 39KB each after the user moves their cursor over or clicks
  • Expansion Limits
    • Expansion must be initiated by mouseover or a click.
    • The 300x250 can expand no more than 200 pixels up, down, or left.
    • The 728x90 can expand no more than 350 pixels down.

All media assets are due 2 weeks prior to campaign start date.
